ACTIVITIES COMING UP:

August 20              Deacon Nominations

DEACON NOMINATIONS:    Sunday, August 20th, the church members will nominate four men to serve as deacons. These men must meet the following qualifications and requirements:   (1)  Must be born again, exemplifying a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord.  (2) Twenty-one years of age.  (3) Head of household.  (4) Member of First Baptist for at least two years.  (5) Resident of the community for three or more years.  (6) Support our church covenant.

Your nominations should also reflect the biblical requirements for the office of a deacon as outlined in I Timothy 3:8-13.

“Likewise must the deacons be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.  And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.  Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.  Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.  For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchases to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

The present active deacons are not eligible for nomination.  They are: John Muse, John Payne, Cliff Mahala, Randy Stewart, Danny Cullop, Jerry Farmer, Hal Robinson, and Horace Warden.

OUR SYMPATHY IS EXPRESSED to the family and friends of Misty Yelton.  A Celebration of Life Service for Misty will be held at 8:00 PM on August 16th, Misty’s birthday, at the Mountain City Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.  We would also like to express our sympathy to the family and friends of Mike Long.   And  to Bob Graybeal and family in the passing of his aunt, Betty Stuart.
